Update on Water Systems following passage of Tropical Storm Matthew

The Water & Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) wishes to inform the public that as a result of the passage of tropical storm Matthew, from Wednesday, 28th September through Thursday, 29th September 2016, that the following water systems were affected accordingly, other reports are still outstanding and will be disseminated in due course:
Hill 20 (Babonneau) Systems
The intakes which feed this system are clogged and highly turbid. The Marquis River is high and remains too dangerous to access the intake in order to undertake any work. Talvern intakes pumps are offline due to a broken, electrical line. Due to a clogged intake at Marquis and the lack of power rendering the use of the Talvern intake, places from Hill 20 to Paix Bouche, La Croix, Bougis, La Borne, Des Rammeaux through to Fond Assau are without a potable water supply.

John Compton Dam System
The John Compton Dam and its raw water network are online, and the system is supplying Thomas R Theobalds water treatment plant. The Millet Gravity source supplying Thomas R Theobalds water treatment plant is currently clogged. The subsidiary intakes at Ravine Poisson and the Vannard are also clogged. The John Compton Dam is online but due to a reduction in production; residents in high elevations and extreme end of the network, i.e Sunbilt, Garden Groove, Sugar City, Odlum City, will be without a supply or experience low pressures, please be patient as the system charges. Please note that there are certain areas on the distribution systems which may prove problematic to supply, and we are working to provide a supply at the soonest.

Dennery System
Communities in Dennery South, like Bois Jolie, the Dennery Village, La Pointe will experience disruptions in the supply due to a damaged transmission line and clogged intake

Errard-system is still offline due to a damaged eight (8) inch main and valve. The River is high and remains too dangerous to access the intakes, to undertake any work. Water supply will be restored as soon as river levels dissipate and become safe to undertake repairs.
Thomazo sub-system remains off due to high turbidity; and also the transmission line is clogged between the intake and pump house. Crews have been dispatch and work has commenced. The water supply will be restored as soon as the works are completed.
Denierre Rivierre sub-system is turned off due to high turbidity and clogged intakes. System will be restored as soon at intake is cleared and turbidity level normalises.
Aux Lyon sub-system is experiencing water interruptions; and WASCO crews are currently investigating the cause. The system also remains highly turbid and will be reopened as soon as the investigations are completed and turbidity drops to treatment level.

Micoud System
Micoud Primary sub-system is still offline due to a damaged eight (8) inch main. WASCO crews have been dispatched, work has begun, and water supply will be restored as soon as works are completed.
Patience sub-system is still offline as there is no water being supplied to the tank, crews have been dispatched to investigate and assess.
Belle Vue sub-system offline due to a damaged six (6) inch, a crew has been dispatched and work has begun.
Deruisseaux sub-systems are still offline as there is no water being supplied to system, crews have been dispatched to investigate and assess. The intake system will be reopened as soon as their turbidity levels normalize.

Vieux Fort System
Grace sub-system – remains clogged, crews have been dispatched and work has commenced. These systems will be reopened as soon as desilting is done at both intakes and their turbidity levels normalise. Areas affected, Augier tank, La Haut tank, Majomel tank, Grace, Coolie Town, Terre Vent, Hope Estate, La Retroite, and Morne Vent
Beausejour sub-system – is functioning satisfactorily.

Chioseul System
Delcer sub-system- system remains clogged. A crew has been dispatched, works have begun and the system will be reopened as soon as turbidity level normalises and works are completed. Areas affected; Upper and Lower Saltibus, and
Saltibus Upper: is still offline as there is no water being supplied to the tank. A crew has been dispatched to investigate and assess.
Saltibus Lower: is still offline due to a damaged six (6) inch raw water main, a crew has been dispatched to carry out repairs.
Toucousson sub-system – is still offline due to a faulty pump. Electrical crew has been dispatched to investigate and assess.
Affected areas; Piaye, La Perle, Sapphire, Delcer, Morne Sion, Martin, La Point (Choiseul), Industry, Reunion, Le Riche, Fiette, Debreuille, Dupre, Roblot Cafferiere, Dugard, and La Maze

Soufriere System
Main transmission line is under repairs and supply is expected to be restored within 3 hrs (from 10:30 a.m.). Ruby sub-system is functioning satisfactorily.
Diamond 1. sub-system : is still offline due to a damaged four (4) inch raw water main, crew has been dispatched.
Diamond 2. sub-system is functioning satisfactorily.
Fond St. Jacques no. 1 sub-system is functioning satisfactorily.
Fond St. Jacques no.2 sub-systems are not functioning due to lack of power to pump house.
Bouton sub-system is functioning satisfactorily.

CANARIES SYSTEM
This intake is clogged and the supply is highly turbid. The system is also experiencing service interruption due to two 4” damaged mains. Areas which are affected are as follows; Canaries, Belvedere and Flora Villa. The transmission line from the treatment facility is damaged. A full assessment cannot be obtained due to river levels.
It will be reopened as soon as turbidity level normalises.
Anse la Verdue system is clogged, crews have been dispatched and works has begun.

Anse La Raye System
The intake which feed this system is clogged supply is highly turbid and the lines are damaged; however, communities are being served from storage tanks. It will be reopened as soon as repairs are completed.
