St Jude Hospital Welcomes Taiwan Medical Volunteers

St Jude Hospital (SJH), the main healthcare provider in the south of St Lucia, formally welcomed six medical volunteers from Changhua Christian Hospital, Taiwan. The welcoming ceremony was held at St. Jude Hospital on Wednesday October 6, 2016 and featured remarks from Senator Hon. Mary Isaac, Minister of Health & Wellness, His Excellency Ambassador Ray H.W. Mou, Ambassador, Republic of China, Taiwan and Dr. Chierry Poyotte, CEO, St. Jude Hospital.

The volunteer group including four doctors and two nurses arrived in St Lucia on September 25th, 2016 and will remain at St Jude Hospital for three weeks.

They are working with SJH staff to enhance the hospital’s services in the areas of Emergency Medicine, Chinese Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Anesthesiology.

This represents the nineteenth visit by Changhua Christian Hospital volunteers to SJH since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in July, 2009. This MOU allows for the provision of medical volunteers to St. Jude Hospital as well as the facilitation of opportunities for the training and professional development of SJH staff at Changhua Christian Hospital.

These Taiwanese volunteers have also included specialists in Internal Medicine, Neurology and Ear, Nose and Throat surgery. During that period, twenty five SJH staff have received training in Biomedical, Renal Dialysis, Operating Room, Emergency Room, Surgery, Administration, Maintenance, Information Technology and Health Information

A group of four SJH staff returned to the island on Sunday September 25th after completing a four-week training program in Taiwan.
