Sandals Goes all out with Breast Cancer Awareness

Press Release:-Breast cancer is the leading cancer diagnosed among women and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. On a global average a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes, and it claims a life every 13 minutes (American Cancer Society).

The disease also affects a number of men.

As the world marks October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sandals Resorts in St. Lucia wants to play its part in raising awareness to help fight this frightening disease.

This month Sandals in St. Lucia will support the fifth annual ‘Walk for the Cure’ with CIBC First Caribbean Bank as a Platinum partner. The company will also partner with the Ministry of Health to undertake an in-house mobilization that ranges from pink campaigns across the three Resorts on the island to a free, comprehensive screening and information program for team members.

Regionally, Sandals has injected more than EC$40,000 in its public awareness programme.

“The subject of Breast Cancer is especially dear to me and I believe to many Saint Lucian and wider Caribbean families, and it is important that we recognize this month as more than a month to remember impact of this Cancer. It is also imperative that we educate ourselves, recognize and adhere to preventative practices that will keep our women alive and healthy,” said General Manager for Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort, Winston Anderson.

General Managers for Sandals Regency LaToc and Sandals Halcyon Beach respectively, Michael James and Christopher Elliott, have both cited the initiative as bold and important to the ongoing worldwide fight against cancer.

Sandals Resorts has in its employ a number of breast cancer survivors who have all joined hands to recognize and increase awareness.

Come Friday October 14, Sandals will encourage all of its team talents in Saint Lucia to wear pink – or wear a pink ribbon – to show solidarity with the many women and men who are fighting breast cancer, and for all the survivors who have had to face this pervasive disease. The company would also like to extend a call to all members of the public to take a stand with Sandals, and wear something pink on Friday the 14th.

Pink is the colour used by cancer organisations throughout the world to draw attention to the fight against breast cancer.
