The Government and People of Saint Lucia extend congratulations to the Republic of China (Taiwan) as the country marks its 105th National Day on October 10th 2016.
Saint Lucia sends out best wishes on this significant occasion to the President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, Ambassador to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Ray Mou, and the Embassy staff, and of course the over 23 million People of Taiwan.
Over the last century Taiwan has exemplified endurance in seeking out its own national identity. Taiwan has surpassed so many countries in terms of its development in areas such as Agriculture, Health Care, Trade & Industry, Innovation and Technology and Fiscal Responsibility.
Since re-establishing diplomatic ties with Taiwan, Saint Lucia has been fortunate to have benefitted from the expertise of Taiwan, including such initiatives such as:
- The Taiwan Scholarship Programme
- Constituency Development Programme (CDP)
- Fruit and Vegetable Demonstration and Extension Cooperation Project
- ICT Technical Cooperation Project
- Black Sigatoka Disease Treatment and Prevention Project
- Saint Lucia Taiwan Partnership Trade Exhibition
These are just some of the areas of assistance to Saint Lucia and Taiwan has also pledged to help St Lucia in the much needed area of security.
Prime Minister Honourable Allen M. Chastanet said of the anniversary: “As Taiwan marks this day in their country’s history, we the People of Saint Lucia, our farmers, our young people, our future doctors and IT specialists, are thankful for your friendship and we celebrate with you. We know that Taiwan will continue to be a great nation and we pledge our support on your continued journey.”
