Press Release:-CARACAS, 11th October 2016: the Government of Venezuela sent 327 tons of construction materials to Cuba for the reconstruction of homes in areas of the Caribbean island affected by passage of Hurricane Matthew.

 Señor Manuel Quevedo, the Venezuelan Minister of Housing, is quoted as saying that: “In this instant we are about to send a new shipment which will help the reconstruction of homes  damaged and destroyed in our sister island, Cuba. We send our love, our solidarity to those families who lost everything”.

He further explained that the shipment comprises mainly of reinforced electro-welded steel grids, 600 electrical transformers donated by the State electrical company Corpoelec and 15, 000 square metres of roofing. 

Minister Quevedo also stated that the shipment includes cargo trucks for the recovery of the electricity grid and mixer trucks for the strengthening of the ‘wet mortar’ plants.

The Cuban Government had previously informed that it would finance half of the cost of the construction materials for persons whose homes suffered damage in the wake of the hurricane.

 The Government of Nicolas Maduro also dispatched a shipment of humanitarian aid to Haiti, the Caribbean nation most affected by Hurricane Matthew with more than 1,000 deaths.
