Saint Lucia’s new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Daasrean Greene, was sworn in this morning at government house.
Greene took the oath of office before Governor General – Dame Pearlette Louisy, the Deputy DPP and other officials.
His contract is for one year.
In confirming the appointment earlier this month, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet had reiterated that his administration’s main priorities were justice and security.
Greene’s appointment comes at a time when there are growing concerns about a backlog of cases in the courts.
He will also have to decide on whether to appoint a Special Prosecutor to deal with the IMPACS case and the Lambirds matter, Prime Minister Chastanet had told reporters.
Daasrean Greene has been a practicing criminal lawyer since December 1999.
He studied at the University of the West Of England and is a member of Lincoln’s Inn of England.
