Choiseul Secondary School students protest

Choiseul Secondary School students are protesting conditions at the institution today.

According to information reaching the Times, the protest involved  Form Five students housed in a block that was affected by heavy rainfall yesterday.

Some held placards aloft on the school compound.

One report indicated that some of the students blocked the stairs and classroom doors.

School officials were unavailable for comment.

However an official familiar with the situation told the Times that the students were being “defiant.”

According to the official, the protesters were told that they would be accommodated an another location but complained that the heat at the new location would be unbearable.

The Times was told that as a result, the school would purchase fans to ensure the students’ comfort.

The official said that the Choiseul Secondary school was not the only one affected by yesterday’s heavy rainfall.

It was disclosed that  classrooms at the Bocage secondary school were flooded by the rain.

The official said that flooding was caused by the positioning of air vents or windows and the direction from which the rain came.

So the fact that another school was affected was supposed to be a solution to the problem? If we want young people to respect us we need to respect them. The students have a genuine concern. Trying to minimize it by saying they’re “defiant’ is not the way to go..
