PM plans to ‘depoliticize’ Tourist Board

Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, has announced that he plans to depoliticize the Saint Lucia Tourist Board.

He made the comments while asserting that his administration is looking forward to the transition to a Tourism Authority.

“Hopefully the current board will make that announcement very soon in terms of what the process is going to be and how quickly the transition will take place,” Chastanet said.

The former Tourism Minister said his administration wants to ‘professionalize’ and not ‘politicize’ the Tourism Authority and create an entity that has much more private sector involvement.

“We want to create an entity that has its own revenue so that it is not part of the government’s recurrent expenditure and has some ordinances that limit the  amount of money that can be spent on overheads,”  the Prime Minister explained during an interview with reporters.

He expressed his thanks to Director of Tourism,Louis Lewis and his Deputy, Tracy Warner-Arnold who both recently quit their posts at the Saint Lucia Tourist Board.

Chastanet spoke of the ‘incredible’ job that both had done and the years they had given to the tourism industry.

Neither Lewis nor Warner-Arnold has spoken publicly about their decision to quitl.
