Attempted rape reported at SALCC

Police are investigating a report of an attempted rape at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) this evening.

Students at the college told the Times that a group of them who live in Soufriere were awaiting a private bus to take them home after their last class at 6:00 p.m.

One of the students explained that they had decided to hire the bus since it was difficult to get public transport home at that hour after classes.

He told the Times that when the bus driver called to indicate that he was delayed, they decided to play a game of hide and seek.

According to information obtained by the Times, a female student hid in a classroom identified as VAR Room 3.

Students reported that the eighteen year old female  told them that while she was in the classroom, a Security Guard at the college entered the room  and closed the door behind him.

“He started telling her like ‘ Do you think that they are going to find you here?’ and all kind of stuff, then he turned around and pulled out his penis,”  one of the students told the Times.

According to the student, the girl jumped through the low level window and ran to summon the others , some of whom immediately ran to the classroom to confront the Security Guard while others went to summon other Guards stationed at the college.

He said Police Officers who were in the vicinity and heard the noisy commotion also arrived on the scene.

“We intended to beat him, but the other Security Guards came and hold him,” the student recalled.

Another student told the Times that when he and others initially confronted the perpetrator, he pulled out a pair of scissors and attempted to throw chairs and desks at them.

The Guard, estimated to be in his forties, was eventually taken into police custody.

The Times was informed that a video of the arrest which was posted on social media has now gone viral.
