Nine Saint Lucians among new Barbados Citizens

Nine Saint Lucians have pledged allegiance to Barbados and its flag, as they took the oath to become citizens of that country.

According to a report in Barbados Today, the Saint Lucians were among 110 immigrants taking the oath.

The new citizens hailed from 14 countries.

The vast majority of those inducted during a ceremony at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre hailed from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

In addition to the nine Saint Lucians, 48 came from Guyana, 14 from St Vincent and the Grenadines, ten from Jamaica and nine from  Trinidad and Tobago.

The others were from Brazil, Dominica, Canada, Ghana, Ireland, Lebanon, Nigeria and the United States.

The ceremony came as Barbados approaches the climax of its 50th anniversary celebrations, and Chief Immigration Officer Wayne Marshall described the new Barbadians as a gift to the country, Barbados Today reported.

According to the publication, over the past five years more than 4,500 applications for citizenship have been approved, including approximately 3,000 from CARICOM member states.

Minister with responsibility for Immigration Senator Darcy Boyce urged the new citizens to embrace all things Barbadian, including the “quarrelling”, but to do it “for the well-being of this nation of ours”.

He added that the integration of various cultures into the Barbadian landscape had helped build a “very rich” heritage.

What is it about BDS that I would leave “Beautiful SLU’s (“Helen of the West”) According the UN bureau of Statistics this tiny island nation of 166 sq… miles and 283k would need a higher GDP revenue per population density .
SLU’s gross GDP is within 2% that of BDS. That being said SLU is 72 Sq. miles larger than BDS and 193k people… if the current Gov’t live to their promise SLU can surpass BDS in the next decade. Why would I want to leave beautiful SLU?
