Racers Host Lucian Grand Prix

Racers Host Lucian Grand Prix

At this time of year, the school term is winding down and the stores are filled with holiday cheer.  Many folks even start planning resolutions and goals for the new year. But Racers Swim Club has a different idea.  From Dec 2 – Dec 4, Racers Swim Club will be hosting Lucian Grand Prix – last major swimming event on the SLASA (St Lucian Amatuer Swimming Association) calendar which started 4 years ago.

Unlike other swim meets held throughout the year in St Lucia, Lucian Grand Prix is designed with heats and finals.  This developmental meet gives the swimmers the ultimate experience of swimming in a competition format similar to CARIFTA, FINA Worlds, or even The Olympics.  The top 8 swimmers in each age group from the events in the morning (AM) sessions will continue to the evening (PM) finals for those events.  Place Winners for the various events will come from the PM finals, for those swimming ages 11 and up.

With the participation of all clubs in St Lucia, Lucian Grand Prix also serves as a last chance for swimmers to set personal best times or even national records before “ageing up” on December 31st.  These times are important for those swimmers aiming to go to Carifta in 2017, which is being hosted this year in Bahamas.  This event proves very exciting for the swimmers over 11 years who participate in the finals each evening.

The Racers swim club is geared towards building strength, speed and discipline in children who have demonstrated a keen interest in swimming.  Swimming for the Racers team is more than just a club, we are a family and have proven over the years to be the strongest swim team in St Lucia. The new year brings exciting news for swimming and the Racers swim club.

Racers will be opening its doors to new members between ages 6 and 12 years.  Tryouts will be held on January 14th and January 28th, with limited space.  This is your chance to experience our family atmosphere. For persons interested in coaching swimming, you can contact Rodney Heights Aquatic Center at 450-7946.  There will be opportunities and more details given.  Also, doors are always open for any schools (children ages 3 and up) for our learn to swim schools program. Again, just contact us at 450-7946 for our friendly staff to provide more details.

Not sure what swimming is all about?  Want to learn more about swimming as a sport?  Come to Rodney Heights Aquatic Center from Dec 2 – Dec 4 to view the excitement of competition.
