The Lions of Zone 3B comprising the Lions clubs of Castries, Vieux Fort, Soufriere Pitons, Micoud and Gros Islet, together with the Castries and Hewanorra Plains Leo Clubs held the second Zone meeting for the lionistic year on Saturday November 26, 2016 hosted by the Gros Islet Lions Club at the Palm Haven Hotel.
In addition to receiving reports from the various Presidents on the programme and activities undertaken during the last quarter, the meeting received a Report from the Chairman of the Anniversary Committee who reported on the plans for the upcoming 50th Anniversary. The lions in Saint Lucia will be celebrating 50 years in 2017, at a time when lions the world over will be celebrating 100 years.
The meeting was addressed by Lion Eldridge Stephens MJF, Past Council Chairman who indicated that in order for lions to give of their best and become excellent lions there is need to display a greater level of maturity. To do this he added, there must be shown a greater amount of love towards each other and for the movement and work hard. He noted further that there is need to show a greater level of tolerance and appreciation and that lionism requires a deep sense of selflessness.
The Zone Chairman, Lion Placid Lascaris implored lions to improve on communication within the Zone and to work together to build on the legacy of the past. He urged Lions to look with hope to the celebration of our 50th Anniversary and to celebrating with the rest of the world our centennial.
The highlight of the meeting was a dramatization by the members of the Micoud Lions focusing on the myths and truths about joining and being a member of the lions club.
The meeting ended with lions singing the District Governor’s Song and in fellowship.
