St. Lucia Alzheimer’s & Dementia Association wants to thank the loving families and friends of the St Jour and Mendes’. On November 15 of this year, the Association was presented a cheque in the amount of $2,224.64 by Yola St. Jour, daughter of Leotha St. Jour who recently passed due to the debilitating disease of Alzheimer’s. Nurse Posvar, President of SLADA had cared for Ms. St. Jour in her later stages of the disease. This direct closeness with both families and the encouragement they gave, brought about the development and the existence of SLADA.
Ms. St. Jour’s passing on October 14th, 2016 has left the many of those that knew this beautiful and loving spirit with an empty heart, but with many fond memories.
“My aunt was always full of life I often remember her always dancing to anything that had a beat….the last time I danced with her was on my wedding day. To see how she deteriorated over the years was heart wrenching…..however by her having Alzheimer’s made me more aware of this degenerative disease.” *As loving told by Iva-Lisa Mendes-Hussein, niece of Leotha St. Jour.
Ms. St. Jour’s spirit lives on through SLADA. Her very presence is the reason and the determination to bring about the awareness of this disease and how it directly affects those families involved here in St. Lucia. SLADA is very thankful for the kind contribution from all those families and friends that gave at Ms. St. Jour’s funeral. We also gratefully thank Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Castries who organized the collection of those that had attended.
SLADA’S mission now to use the contribution will go towards training volunteers for the Caregiving Respite program that St. Lucia desperately needs.
Anyone interested in support, or training please contact SLADA at [email protected] or 486-4509.
