Recognizing International Volunteer Day

Press Release:-International Volunteer Day (IVD) – December 5th – is an international observance designated by the United Nations since 1985, to celebrate volunteerism, and to pay special tribute to ordinary people’s participation in making a difference locally, nationally and globally.

Volunteerism benefits the giver as well as the receiver, with research-proven benefits such as enhanced volunteer experience, skill sets and employability, as well as less obvious positive health benefits such as lower mortality and depression rates. As Winston Churchill noted: “You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give”.

On this day, RISE (St. Lucia) Inc. recognizes Sterling Insurances Services Ltd., a consistent supporter of our work in positive youth development in St. Lucia for the past 8 years.

RISE salutes the team at Sterling Insurances – Mr. Keith Smith, Mrs. Diane Smith, Mr. Kerris Smith and their staff, extends sincerest appreciation for their long-standing support, and calls on all responsible persons to similarly participate in this crucial area of national development.

Sterling, by its consistent monthly financial support of RISE for the past 8 years, has been the needed background support of impactful youth development initiatives such as the Caribbean Youth Empowerment Program (CYEP) More Vulnerable Youth Employability project (with IYF, NSDC, CARE, St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, BelFund) and IIT and BPP University scholarship initiatives, amongst many others.

Mr. Kerris Smith, participating in the recently observed recognition of IVD, acknowledged his team’s dedication to joining the effort of positive youth development in St. Lucia, as part of his company’s holistic national development vision.

Volunteerism is being lost in Saint Lucia. Kudos to those who still give of their time, skill, knowledge and other resources.
