Saint Lucia heading to AIBA Congress

Press Release:-Castries, Saint Lucia, December 16, 2016 – The President of the Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) Mr David “Shakes” Christopher will leave the island this weekend, to attend the 2016 Extrodinary Congress of the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Montreux, Switzerland from December 19-21.

Mr Christopher is attending this Congress with great optimism, especially as the island gets set to host three major boxing championships in 2017.

These are the OECS Boxing Championship in April, the Creole Boxing Championships in July and the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament (CDBT) scheduled for December.

Over sixteen countries are expected to participate in the third staging of the CDBT, presenting many exciting oppertunities for the host country Saint Lucia. Already AIBA has pledged $25,000USD towards Saint Lucia`s hosting.

The SLBA President willl make a case for training and educational scholarships for young boxers around the island. Whiles at the AIBA Congress he will also lobby for equipment and additional financial asisstance for the national boxing programme.

During his three day trip to Switzerland, Mr Christopher will also attend a special gala Black Tie ball in recognition of AIBA’s 70th anniversary.

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is a non-profit international organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the sole governing boxing body worldwide, with 200 member associations.
