Martinique cracks down on illegal workers

Martinique has announced measures to crack down on illegal workers in the construction industry.

According to Martinique 1ere, as early as June this year workers in the industry will be required to present an identity card.

All workers will be required to have their professional cards on them on the job site.

Although the measure will become mandatory from June 2017, for now it is in the test phase that began in December and will continue for a few more months.

The professional identification card is equipped with a  bar code  that will lists all the information about the employee, his identity and that of his employer.

It is expected that the new id card for construction workers will facilitate labour  inspectors.

In the event that an employee is not able to present his card, the employer could be slapped with a  fine of up to 2000 euros, according to Martinique 1ere.
