Teen charged with blackmailing Minister

A teenager appeared in court today on charges of attempting to blackmail Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Doctor Ubaldus Raymond.

The young woman has been identified as eighteen year old Curshaby Alexander of Beausejour, Gros Islet.

Alexander was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 when she appeared in court Friday.

If found guilty, the young student could face up to fourteen years in jail, legal sources have indicated.

Her appearance in court today came as Doctor Ubaldus Raymond issued a statement declaring that there have been attempts to extort monies from him through ‘devious means’.

He did not go into details.

However it is alleged that the charges against the teenage student were laid in connection with a threat to publish photos, purportedly of Raymond, if a certain payment was not made.

The Minister made it clear  in a written statement today that no amount of threats will cause him to turn away from his values as a human being and as a family man.

“People will constantly try to besmirch your character and use underhanded tactics to undermine your credibility,” Raymond said.
