Sandals supports dental care for prisoners

The Sandals Foundation will later today present a dental chair to the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF), to assist with dental care for inmates.

The chair is valued at US$ 8,000.

The Sandals Foundation has said that the donation is part of an ongoing partnership between the organisation and Great Shape Inc that has been active for two consecutive years.

As a result of the collaboration, free dental care is facilitated across the Caribbean in areas where the need for formal health care is great.

The request for a dental chair was made during a visit to BCF.

BFC officials indicated that the chair would assist the medical unit in providing a more holistic service to inmates.

The formal hand over of the chair has been scheduled for this morning at 10:30.

I hear you my friend, but this is a small gesture. Based on the 2016 economic figures Sandals contributed US$70M in terms of taxes, salaries, utility payments and local purchases. That means the company has pumped XCD$170 million into St. Lucia in one year along. We have to look at the bigger picture. And these same Great Shape people, they gave 1000 St. Lucians free dental care last year, fully funded by Sandals. We have to look at everything sometimes.
There are others coming here and doing nothing even close. I happy for the Correctional officers, sure their life easier.

Yeah man… there are some companies that don’t even think about giving back… or only give to a select few. Worse yet, what about the companies that set themselves up in the Caribbean especially, to exploit our natural and human resources? These should be the important issues… especially with the Royalton trying to bully its way into the local tourism sector. Sandals has given much more than money to this nations… we’ve been identified as a global brand and we have international integrity as a tourist destination. Good job Sandals. Please keep it up.
