Work begins on expanding Boxing Gym

Press Release:-Castries, Saint Lucia, January 23, 2017 –The Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) has commenced works to upgrade the National Boxing Gymnasium at Vigie, Castries.

This phase of the project will expand the gym by 10feet and is financed by the Oliver Gobat Sports (TOGS) Fund.

President of the SLBA Mr David “Shakes” Christoher says the aim is to make the gymnasium more condusive for training boxers given the increase in the number of interested youngsters. He says the gym upgrade is also critical ahead of Saint Lucia`s hosting of three major boxing tournaments this year.

The ground work has commenced and this phase which includes casting of the foundation is expected to be completed in within two weeks. This will pave the way for the erection of concrete blocks and covering of the extended area.

The Saint Lucia Boxing Association has again thanked the family of the late Oliver Gobat and the Oliver Gobat Sports (TOGS) Fund for providing $5000 in support of the project.

However, the SLBA requires additional support and encourages corporate and private citizens who are able, to support the upgrade and expansion of the National Boxing Gymnasium.
