Alvina Reynolds speaks out on Raymond scandal

Press Release:-I have been anticipating the resignation of Senator the Honourable Dr. Ubaldus Raymond in the wake of the release of nude photographs purportedly of Dr. Raymond, a scandal which has pervaded every local and regional headline.  Instead however, the response of the Minister in question and Prime Minister, amongst others, has been of great concern to me.

As a woman and former Minister for Health, Gender Relations and Human Services it is indicative upon me speak on this issue especially in light of the fact that an 18-year-old female student was arrested and charged with immediacy on account of bribery whereas Dr. Raymond continues to function in his Ministerial post.

As adults, we must always be cognizant of the fact that our boys, girls and young people are watching us and following our lead. We need to set a good example because failure to do so shall contribute to the failure of an entire generation.

As a society, we must stop allowing double standards and prejudices to pervade our moral  beliefs or  modify what we know to be right or wrong.

As a society we must, by our actions, show that neither women nor the weak and vulnerable are made to bear a higher burden than men or persons in positions of wealth, power and authority.

Whereas we can all appreciate that we are not without fault, we must nevertheless consistently demonstrate that our errors in judgement come with consequences – which irrespective of person we all need to face in accordance with the nature of our mistakes.

Senator the Honourable Dr. Ubaldus Raymond in his capacity as Minister in the Ministry of Finance represents the Government of Saint Lucia and the people of Saint Lucia. We Saint Lucians therefore, have a right to hold him accountable for his actions and inactions to a standard which is ‘‘honourable’’ – in other words admirable, principled, respectable and upright.

In these circumstances, it is most evident that Dr. Ubaldus Raymond must do the honourable thing and tender his resignation immediately. I am appalled that neither Dr. Ubaldus Raymond himself, nor the Prime Minster would have seen if fit for his resignation to have been tendered with the equivalent promptness at which the student was arrested and charged for alleged involvement in the matter.

As a people, we must demand more and better from those to whom we entrust our fair Helen to exercise good judgement in making decisions which will result in our prosperity. Our silence may be interpreted as acceptance or tolerance of wrongdoing and this is never the legacy we want to leave for future generations.

We must stand for justice, equality and accountability for all.

Lorne and Claudius were both accused of rape and help some of the highest offices in the land. Which is more serious?

anybody can be accused. Ubaldus was caught red handed. Lorne and Claudius said they did not. Ubaldus is just not saying anything. He should at least say it didn’t happen and then it would be an accusation just like the others, but you know what he can’t say it wasn’t him.

you say e was caught red handed. but where exactly in our CRIMINAL code is adultery a crime?? he is guiilty in the moral court, not legal courts
(now I say moral loosely, as our society isnt at all moral, but only when convenient; we walk around naked, we cuss all day, we drink and smoe lots, we have kids left and right with persons we not married to etc.. but of course morals mean sex with one person right??))

So what you saying is since one monkey do the other do also…monkey see monkey do…why cant we in this contry just look at things for what they are .and stop that thing about (Ohh he or she did.it before so why can’t I do it ) If it is wrong it is wrong don’t matter who or how many people do it .But when we sopporting somebody we get so blinded by our support of that person that we try to find an excuse for they behaviour….

Alvina finally a statement from the opposition worth reading. I was disappointed with the opposition leaders statement on this matter, basically leaving it up to Ubaldus conscience. What if he does not have a conscience he opposition going to just seat there. Thats the best Peep could have said on the matter?

Lorne was NOT found in any scandal while in office. But Ubaldus did. So that’s a huge difference.

To Alvina and toute moon, fact Ubaldus is a cheap man, fact the young woman in this fracka is a cheap prostitute who does not know how to handle the sale of sex. She did not have the deal signed on the dotted line before. This is no business of yours Alvina, nor the rest of the country. It’s their business and his wife. The young lady is of age and she committed a criminal act of blackmail. Ubaldus didn’t commit any criminal act.
Let’s move on. Next on the agenda how does St. Lucia proceed with Trump and Trumpet in the White House how does it affect us. This is more important than two consenting adults airing their laundry in public.

I quite agree with Reynolds. Please let us not make this about politics. Everyone is wallowing in the scandal which one man entrusted with a prestigious position begun. people seem to forget that the other individual is still a teenager. While her age is not an excuse for her maliciousness, let us not forget that she was not the only one involved in the behaviour. If there is no fairness then there is no justice. the law should not be based on revenge but on justice. And if the law is based on justice, let Let Raymond resign for the shame and disgrace he has perpetuated. If he had not let down his zipper in the first place and had respected his country, his family and the position to which he was entrusted, the whole thing would not have started. Let us call it like it is….Raymond is irresponsible and an irresponsible individual cannot be made to hold office, particularly one in which the finances of the nation is involved. Let us quit being biased about the whole affair. Girl reprimanded for her part, Raymond pays the price for his indiscretion. Simple! “Where is the justice of political power if it executes the murderer and jails the plunderer, and then itself marches upon neighboring lands, killing thousands and pillaging the very hills?”

khayti, the pics were not recently taken. and note this young adult (definitely not teenager) have been acting as a prostitute for some time now, and uses pics taken with her customers as bribry for large amounts of money form them. Ubaldous did not adhere to her nastiness. I totally agree with him.

Yes Alvina. You sat with a party who had a Speaker of the House, a President of the Senate and a minister of tourism. When they called a big minister for child support your friend Emma dismissed that saying there are more important things in the country to see about.
Nothing for all of that and you were quiet as a mouse. Hypocrite

Nude pics and consent is none of your business Alvina. Because I specifically remembered you dodged every call and attempt made to you to assist an elderly person in desperate need to care. Have several seats……………. you had no compassion for the people you served. I hope that does not happen another time. Yet you worried about nude pics……… GIRL byeeeee

We have allowed politics to color our reasoning and destroy our conscience. How can any reasonable person defend Dr. Raymond’s narcissistic and grossly immoral behavior? For Dr. Raymond not to resign on his own volition or the PM not to dismiss Dr. Raymond from Cabinet, it’s as though a medical doctor has performed brain surgery on these two individuals and removed their consciences. I’m politically blind when it comes to wrongdoings by politicians. In fact, I have never met a good politician. When one gives blind support to any politician or political party, you do great harm to your country. For some of you to demonize and excoriate Ms. Reynolds for her thoughtful comments, it’s just very disconcerting. Just a word of admonition. Never use past indiscretions to justify current wrongs.

Nude photographs were circulated of someone. This person was not caught in the act doing anything illegal. In which book or law is it stated that an individual should resign from his/her job because of this, whether you are a Prime Minister, Minister of Gov’t, Priest, Secretary, Vendor or a Janitor? Anyone can take a photo of you in swimsuit and edit that pic and expose it without and clothing (I am not saying this is the instance). We should Allow the case to go through before passing judgement. I strongly believe Mr. Raymond did a sense-able thing by going to the law.

It’s Mrs Reynolds for real? I’m not defending Dr. Raymond by any means but Mrs. Reynolds comments are exactly what’s wrong with our society. “Young boys & girls” The person charged with BLACKMAIL is 18 years old, She’s a “Woman”. We need to hold our youth accountable for their actions, that’s the only way they are going to become responsible and lead the new generation. Sidetracking doesn’t help. Let’s remember there’s only one crime being committed here and it’s not being pointed at Dr. Raymond. We can’t defend her actions by placing blame of Mr. Raymond. Come on people.
