Boxing Association to launch 2017 Programme

Press Release:-Castries, Saint Lucia, January 25, 2017 – Local boxers will today Wednesday January 25, 2017 be awarded for their success and commitment during the last year.

The Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) is hosting the special awards night which will also mark the launch of the 2017 National Boxing Programme.

President of the SLBA Mr David “Shakes” Christopher says the 2017 National Boxing Programme will place considerable emphasis on the school system to engage the nation`s youth in positive activities.

He says in addition to working with education officials to get boxing approved as part of the curriculum, the SLBA also plans to reengage the Bordelais Correctional Facility to use boxing in rehabilitating inmates.

Saint Lucia is seeking to develop a cadre of five hundred well trained boxers in preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and other upcoming international tournaments.

This year, the SLBA with support from the International Boxing Association (AIBA) will implement a robust training and education programme for local boxers and affiliates around the island. The main aim is to create champions and better citizens through boxing.

The Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) will also unveil its new executive to the media, during the awards night and launch of the 2017 National Boxing Programme, which takes place at the Auberge Seraphine Hotel from 5:30pm.
