Saint Lucia records another shooting death

Saint Lucia has recorded another homicide with the shooting death this morning of a man at Cedars.

A resident of the area reported hearing someone scream twice, after which gunshots were heard.

The incident occurred at around 5:20 am, it is reported.

Sources told the Times that police investigators on the scene recovered a bag which is believed to have belonged to the deceased, leading to speculation that robbery was the motive behind the shooting.

The deceased has been identified as Peter Satney, 52, of Sunbilt.

He is reported to have been shot three times in the abdomen.

This morning’s shooting follows a homicide yesterday at the bottom of Rose Hill in which Peter Desir, known as ‘Top Man’, sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and died on the spot.

It is reported that a lone gunman walked up to Desir as he sat in his vehicle and opened fire before escaping.

That incident occurred after 4:pm.

A spate of shooting deaths since the beginning of the new year has created unease among citizens who are concerned that killers seem to strike with impunity and at will at any time of the day or night.

“We are the ones that are sleeping –  these fellows not sleeping,” an irate citizen told the Times.

Citizens are also concerned about what they perceive to be a shocking disregard for life.

Some have called on social media for a robust police response akin to the controversial Operation Restore Confidence in which some 12 suspected criminals were killed by the police between 2010 and 2011 during a violent crime wave, prompting allegations of extra-judicial executions by law enforcers and triggering the IMPACS report.

The report found, among other things,  that the police staged situations and planted weapons on suspects.

Where is the plead from human rights activists. I am guessing the ppl don’t have a right to live. Criminals have the right to be treated humanely but the victims have no right yes?… tougher laws have to be enforced. All we hearing is another another one down.. But no arrests.. What a thing

Now, is it wrong to ask our politians to account? In my lifetime, I have not heard of so many homicides being committed in one month (January even).

So, Mr. Ti Chas and security minister, we have not heard anything substantial on the matter of crime and how y’all intend to address it. Remember, I asked for HOW and not “we will have to …”. You are accountable! Also, you did promise that you had the answer for crime.

The police have to stop and search people to make sure they’re not carrying any conceal weapons. Search their person’s, vehicles, homes, property, the perimeters of their houses. The police should randomly stop and search people, and their vehicles. The police should have the power to do so.

Out of many things I’ve seen on the news over the years this has angered me. Knowing this man as long as I did and have never seen him without a smile on his face. Good hart to good taken as he was.

Will say this much whoever did this must be from the area.
Hope the family get them before the police.
I would want too if I was them.
    R.I.P Peter.

We have to leave it in the hands of God, May God help the criminals to open their hearts to see how this is destroying families, they should also have families if someone was to do that to their brother or any of they families, they would see how it feels, my brother’s life was cut short, didn’t even have time to enjoy his life, they say people die before they time, my brother did, It time the government take responsibility for the crimes that is destroying are beautiful Island, why the young people not going into argriculture, to plant food to export to other countries, and to many foreigners taking over the country, let put our heads together and help to prevent another family to be in this situation that our family are in right now, Peter Desir was a good brother son and uncle to his family, May you rip my little brother.
