Minister to Police: Keep criminals ‘busy’

Expressing concern about what he described as an explosion of violent crime since the beginning of the year, National Security Minister, Hermangild Francis, has asserted the police should keep criminals ‘busy’.

“We need to put systems in place, we need to speak with the police so the police could step up their patrols and step up their stop and search and do things –think out of the box to be able to deal  with these criminals,” Francis, a former Deputy Police Commissioner asserted.

“Sometimes the police know – they know the criminals, but it is just that they do not have sufficient evidence to charge them,” the minister said.

He declared that in such a situation the police need to keep the criminals ‘busy.’

Francis said he was aware that persons would raise issues of human rights and question why certain people are being harassed.

“But if that is what it takes to keep these guys in check, we need to do that,” he stated.

“If I know that you are a criminal or you have been using the gun, then I am going to make you a target, I am going to follow you, I am going to keep you busy so that any time you figure that you are going to go back there to do something, I would be there waiting for you,” Francis said during Wednesday’s Newsmaker Live programme on DBS Televsion.

He spoke hours after  a double homicide at La Clery.

At about 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, 26 year old Jeffery Cashim Abella, and 29 year old Sandrina Joseph, were found at her residence with multiple injuries about their bodies.

The deaths brought to thirteen, the number of homicides for the year.

Since then, today’s reported stabbing death of  51 year old Charles Augustin has pushed the homicide toll to 14.

Augustin is alleged to have been stabbed by one of his sons.

A male suspect is currently in police custody.

See, I remember this guy use to have periods of verbiage behind the microphone talking smack about crime during last year’s political campaign. But now, his only defence is ‘Keep The Criminals Busy.’ You can’t be serious. Lmbao

The only way we are kept busy is when you’re doing something.
in order words “let the criminals do their thing”
You should keep them bogged down.
The only time they are busy is when they are committing “CRIME”.

Yeah we have to keep them busy the little termites these criminals are taking over our country,we need to maks them uneasy by having to look over their shoulders all the time,we need to make mistakes,we need our communities to stop fear mongering, get busy and take back their communities. We need the maximum zentence excluding death for these criminals who continue to terrorize5 our communities in such a ferocious way.We need four legged police dogs to search and find these criminals.
