Martinique: Saint Lucians among bulk of foreign workers

Saint Lucians and Haitians constitute the bulk of foreign workers in Martinique, the publication Martinique 1ere has reported.

However the publication notes that despite criticism of the presence of foreign workers, the Labour Department has said that the situation is due to the absence of a skilled labour force.

According to the Labour Department, more than five hundred foreigners signed job contracts last year and are generally passing through Martinique.

The foreign workers are found mainly in the banana and construction industries.

According to reports, some of the workers are hired at the request of companies that do not always find the skills required on the spot.

A company may decide to make an employee available to one of its subsidiaries based in Martinique, or, as authorized by the European Union, the employee is sent by his employer to another member state to work there temporarily, it was reported.

The Labour Department has said that it  ensures that everything is done to find qualified candidates first in Martinique and non-nationals are recruited only if the searches do not succeed.

Because Saint Lucians and Haitians speak French Kweyol so well it is easy for them to find work in Martinique.
Now I am sure that the Lucians display greater productivity in Martinique than they would in Saint Lucia.

So if most of our skilled construction workers have found employment in Martinique that is why local contractors cannot find good tradesmen here.

Saint Lucian performs very well on the job in a foreign land than in their country.I believe that they are too distracted by the politician of the day, one says coupa the other says pas coupa. The workers get confuse and don’t know what to do. In foreign they don’t have that to do, they just work for their money. Too much (Word deleted) in Saint Lucia.
