Fedee hails opening of Royalton Hotel

Dominic Fedee, the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Tourism, Information and Broadcasting,  has hailed last week’s  soft opening of the Royalton Saint Lucia Resort and Spa, saying that the resort is a ‘fantastic’ addition to the local tourism product.

“The inventory here is about 455 and I think that is going to add tremendous value for us and give us tremendous momentum as a destination,” Fedee told reporters.

He disclosed that he was especially pleased that some 900 people are employed, whilst the interviews and recruiting continue.

According to the minister, that is very good for the youth of this country who are looking for opportunities within the tourism sector.

“It’s a big opportunity for the business community, the economic spin-offs are going to be tremendous,” Fedee stated.

“The Royalton brand is going to bring tremendous force to the destination – it’s a product that we didn’t have before and it’s a product that is going to lend itself to our marketing initiative,” he observed, adding that the Royalton will provide an opportunity to attract more airlift to Saint Lucia.

“There are so many positives coming out of this investment at a time when the economy badly needs it and at a time when the unemployment rate is of much concern,” Fedee said.

He explained that the current administration has a number of other projects in the pipeline which will provide economic stimulus in the administration’s efforts to double this country’s GDP with tourism playing a leading role.

    Trickle down economics!

The only credible (partially) thing about that article is 900 people are employed.

How many of the 900 already employed are St Lucian?

How many St Lucians are on the Management Team?

How long a Tax Holiday has the Royalton hotel been given for their investment 20, 40, 100 years?

Give us the IMPORTANT stuff not the fluffy meaningless words.

      I support your comment 100%.

These opportunities are created to generate employment for Saint Lucians. Our youth need this opportunity.

      Enough of the fluff.

      This is inherited economics.

As for the individual who wrote the distasteful comment, if you have no positive views keep your toot toot toot shut!

Royalton, as the new kid on the block, has made the other hoteliers so nervous that they say Royalton poaching their underpaid and exploited staff.
