Canada’s High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Marie Legault, paid a courtesy call yesterday on Castries Mayor, Peterson Francis.
“It was a wonderful visit,” the Canadian diplomat told reporters afterwards, adding that it was the first occasion for her to meet the Mayor and City Councillors.
The Canadian High Commissioner said they spoke about the challenges facing the Castries Constituencies Council and what the Mayor has been doing since taking up the position.
Legault observed that Castries had been twinned with Whitehorse, the largest City in Northern Canada, a long time ago.
“We will renew that relationship and hopefully continue working together,” she stated.
Mayor Peterson Francis for his part said the meeting also discussed the City Police and the need for equipment and training.
“We spoke about the long relationship Canada has shared with Saint Lucia and as history would have it, from the father – Pierre Trudeau, who was a very good friend of Saint Lucia, to the son right now and we look forward to strengthen the relationship between the two countries,” the Mayor disclosed.
