Minister blasts document leaks

Minister for Economic Development, Housing, Urban Renewal, Transport and Civil Aviation, Guy Joseph, has declared that leakages of government documents represent attempts to destabalise the  United Workers Party (UWP)administration.

Joseph told reporters the leaks are intended to call the operations of the government into question.

“This is what happens when you have political appointees carrying out the work of public servants,” he said.

According to the minister, what the previous Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) government did was to load the public service with political appointees who have a loyalty to a party and not to a government.

“That is why I believe that all political appointees should go with the government who appointed them,” the Castries South East MP declared.

“You think Donald Trump came to be President of the US and inherited all the political persons that former President Obama appointed? No! He came in with his crew of people,”Joseph observed.

He said the current administration continues to have problems with the Public Service Commission (PSC) which, when a recommendation is made, has its own political agenda which is not the government’s.

He said the people of this country elected the current administration with an overwhelming mandate and people in the public service, on boards and committees are trying to frustrate the work of the government.

“When we take the appropriate steps to deal with them then other people come out and cry ‘Victimisation’,” Joseph said.

“So who is the victim today? Isn’t it Saint Lucia and the people of Saint Lucia who will be paying the price for all of the leaks of what is happening” ” He told reporters today.

Joseph was responding to questions about the reported leakage of the St Jude Hospital audit report.

“For those persons who think that leaking documents is a problem of the elected ministers of government, I think that we now have a service that is distrusted by both the previous government and the present government,” Joseph stated.

He said there are whistle blowers who do not find employment after they are discovered because no one trusts them.

Joseph said he was hearing rumours about the leak but was not aware that any copies of the audit report had been made public.

However the minister said nothing is going to change in terms of what the ministry is doing.

He said as far as he is aware, the government has not been in breach of anything in regard to the audit report.

.

“Everything relating to St Jude has been in the media – I have been very open in my discussions about St Jude,” Joseph said, adding that if the report is in the public domain it will not change the course that the government is taking in dealing with the issues pertaining to the hospital.

If I can remember correctly when Mr. Guy Joseph was in the opposition he always had this little bag carrying around with leaked documents from the former government. It seems the shoe is on the other foot now.

Further confirmation that guy is a joke. No pun intended. Those audits and investigations conducted with public monies should be released to the public. The whistle-blowers are simply forcing his hand and calling his bluff. The fact that the audit will not result in mass arrests, is no reason not to release it. That weasel is only trying to start a round of victimization. Sorry individual.

I am looking for a page in the report I yet to find. I will be gracious to call you Mr.Guy Joseph at this point. I voted for UWP and yes at this point I am a bit taken aback by your administration. Please show me where in the report is the section that said to cancel or find a new place to build the hospital.
This is not fair as to what you guys are doing to us that voted for your party. I may never vote again in my life because I have learnt a lesson from both parties.
By the way Mr.Joseph I also want you to know many of my friends that voted for UWP are now thinking hard if they did the right thing. I voted for Spider and boy that hurt me.
My cousin is a NICE worker that voted for him also and now she is home crying thinking how is she going to make it after 31st March 2017. I truly hope you guys can make things turn around quickly.
Mr.Joseph we had high hope but it look like it is all gone. Please help us the peple to get better.

I am at a loss as to why this Guy make these pronouncements. I think he turned his TV on, turned to a US news channel, heard Sean Spicer and said “aha, now I will tell st. Lucian’s the same thing”.

People, the Trump administration and the UWP’s are one and the same. They are clueless, vindictive, and have heads that need to be guillotined

The people of St Lucia are always the victims.

Guy, if your Government and the previous Government are TRANSPARENT with ALL works which are being done on behalf of your EMPLOYERS (The People of St Lucia) then they wouldn’t any leaks because the people are fully aware.

When you’ll (both of you’ll) in opposition you’ll like to sing the “Transparency” song. But when in office “Cloak & Dagger.”

Long live the leaks, there should be lots more….

I believe that in same case scenario, the losing party and all its district reps should step down if their party lost the elections. So my point is that, St. Lucians should vote for party and not district reps, that way, the country would have a better control of the outcome of elections.
