Pierre warns of street protests over DSH

Opposition leader,Philip J.Pierre, has warned of the possibility of street protests over the controversial Desert Star Holdings Limited (DSH) project slated for the South of the Island.

The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) leader told a news conference this morning that  over the past few weeks there has been a sustained campaign from civil society for the ruling United Workers Party (UWP) to be more accountable by providing more details about the $US 2.6 billion  project.

“The Saint Lucia Labour Party is once more calling on the UWP to dialogue with the people of the Island on unacceptable sections of the agreement and we reserve the right to bring our protests to the streets, if government fails to heed to our just requests,” Pierre told  the news conference .

Pierre recalled that the SLP has been very clear in its pronouncements on the initiative, indicating that there should be no DSH project unless the deal is renegotiated.

He stated that the UWP has responded by saying that it is attempting to renegotiate parts of the agreement.

“We have heard certain government ministers agree that there are clauses that are unacceptable,” the Castries East MP stated.

He said the government has indicated that it has finalised the agreement for phase one of the DSH project which is the race track component.

Nevertheless Pierre said there has been no indication as to whether the concerns expressed by the SLP and civil society have been addressed.

He told reporters that the SLP has been informed that there will be a formal signing ceremony on March 8 and preliminary works have started at Beausejour in Vieux Fort.

Pierre reiterated a call to the government to answer a number of questions relating to the DSH project, including whether the land for the race track will be leased  at $US 1 for ninety-nine years, whether an environmental impact assessment has been completed and if the race track has received Development Control Authority (DCA) approval.

Why would the UWP want to build a RACE TRACK of all things that will contribute to more prostitution, gambling and CRIMR on the Island. YOU do not even have a grip on how to hand the crime riddle country, complete the projects that have been started, you claim you are broke. HEY stay in the country and figure out how to make it work and leave the Foreign people out. You will accumulate more debt and they take your Country.

Pierre you are now at desperation level with the start of the project. You and SLP greatest fear is the success of DSH. As DSH succeeds SLP start losing its base in the south.

That is really what it is all about

Kenny and company, through Phillip J Pierre, only want to avenge the government for putting a stop to the Administrative Complex project in Beane Field. They are now calling whether the DSH has DCA approval and whether an EIA was done, none of which was done for the Administrative Complex project. . The truth of the issue is that the SLP are afraid of staying in the political wilderness should that project get off. A few years back Kenny forecasted a craft market for Vieux Fort in that unoccupied space next to Coconut Bay, Years later still waiting for that market to sell my produce. DSH will give persons from the south real jobs and not political handouts.

By the way mr phillip J Pierre do you’ll really understand transparecy? If not then here it is. Greenburg was signed in secrecy, only became knowledgable to the public when it failed and st. Lucia was in the fire. Please dont oppose because this is your role, remember you all started the negotiations but stopped, for whatever reason ( God knows for sure ). This adminstration is making available all that is necessary to the people’s hearing, therefore you should let the people make their own judgement which should be respected, and they should not be bated to conditions detrimental to the development of our country. I am one who believe that peace and stability could be obtained through sensible negotiation. Just because one is not in a commanding position that this gives him the right go against everything the other says. This nation needs unification to attain this, it takes frank and openminded people who has the guts to educate the populace realistically on matters concerning our nation. No schism or malice, but truth this alone will stand. God bless this wounderful nation

You all are doing this because you believe Vfortians are jackassess. We are not. If your protest is today, Vfortians will be protesting against your protest and for the project, the next day.

Pip why don’t you protest the lack of clarity and information provided by your government. Tell us more about jufali. You asking for riot and demonstration. Asking for civil unrest and an uprising. You think Lucians are brain-dead pawns in your game. Try answering the questions people have had for you for YEARS

what is with everyone calling each other out as slaves and house slaves and master and all that nonsense. Do you idiots realise everytime you do that, YOU are perpetuating the problem of racism and keeping us back. You have not been slaves for ages. You are not American. You do not have the issues with race in your own country that you keep accusing each other of having. What sense does it make to tell one black person they are being a slave to someone even darker than themselves. I wish you would all focus on the issues and not these ridiculous talking points. Pip is here calling for Street protests without thinking about how it impacts St Lucia as a whole. Why didn’t he call for them when all the news of his party’s shady misdoings came to light?? When will the information requested by the people be made available? Until then please focus on that rather than getting swept up in a mob of ignorance
