The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Lambirds Academy, Doctor Iftekhar Shams, has declared that his three co-defendants in the Lambirds controversy are suffering in jail.
The three, Kumar Batukbhai Chadasama, Ashwin Kanji Patel, and Gurjeet Singh Vilkhu, along with Shams, were jointly charged with human trafficking.
“They are suffering like hell,” Shams, who is out on bail in connection with the joint human trafficking charge, told the Times in an interview today.
He declared that the men, who are totally innocent, are crying every day after being in jail for some three years.
Shams had a money laundering charge against him dismissed, while the matter of obtaining property by deception involving him was concluded recently via mediation, with several Asian students being reimbursed cash they paid to Lambirds Academy.
The students claimed that they paid at least US$9,000 each to an agent from their region to secure a place at Lambirds Academy in Gros Islet, where they were supposed to have been trained in hospitality management and given job placements in the United States of America after completing their training.
Shams accused local authorities of dragging out the Lambirds Academy matter.
