Landings help honour deserving women

Press Release:Gros Islet, Saint Lucia (March 14th, 2016): On Wednesday 8th January, twenty hardworking women were treated to a special evening of dinner and awards at the Landings Resort & Spa. In celebration of International Women’s Day under the theme ‘Be Bold For Change, the resort was elated to lend support to such a worthy cause, aimed at creating a world where gender equality is not only actively pursued, but achieved.

Dr. Greta Franklin-Brown who arranged the event, lauded its success and expressed how fitting it is to put these unsung heroes on the spotlight in honour of their amazing achievements. According to her, the amazing women who were honoured on the evening represent, ‘the market vendors, the women who sell at the roadside in their trays, the cooks who prepare meals, the famers, hairdressers, seamstresses – all contributing immensely to our society.’

In his welcome remarks at the proceedings, General Manager of the resort, Mr Wilbert Mason expressed how happy the Landings was to be part of such a timely initiative which is aligned with the resort’s community outreach programmes. As highlighted by Mr Mason, ‘We are proud to stand with such dedicated and hardworking women who are true role models for the next generation in a time when family values and a positive account of community are hallmarks for future successes in our society’.  He further expressed that continued work must be done to change the current situations in some households, but applauded the awardees who may lead ordinary lives but provide an extraordinary service every day.
