A 62 year old resident of Dennery survived an armed carjacking last night at around 11:30 pm near the Fond D’Or Heritage Park, it has been reported.
A family member told the Times that farmer, Gilbert Wilfred, stopped his dark blue single cab Mazda van near the park in order to urinate, when a masked gunman emerged from the bushes and held him up.
According to the family member, the gunman ordered the father of seven to get back into the vehicle, threatening to shoot if he did not comply with directions given.
Wilfred was told to drive to an area of La Ressource where the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) has a centre, ordered to get out of the vehicle and instructed to lie face down on the ground.
The gunman relieved his victim of a wallet and a mobile telephone before driving off with Gilbert’s vehicle.
Gilbert, who is also known as ‘Spillover’ and ‘Mr.Dillin’, later walked to the Richfond police station,avoiding the main road for fear that he might encounter the gunman again.

From the station the Dennery resident called his family at around 2.am informing them of his ordeal and was picked up and taken home by his son in law, according to reports.
Family members say they are very grateful that Gilbert was unhurt.
They have also expressed gratitude to the media and to the many citizens who called with words of support and comfort.
In addition, they have expressed thanks to the many persons who have supported the hunt for the stolen vehicle, PA3239, which is yet to be located.
The hunt for the vehicle began shortly after Gilbert returned home.
