Dennery resident survives armed carjacking

A 62 year old resident of Dennery survived an armed carjacking last night at around 11:30 pm near the Fond D’Or Heritage Park, it has been reported.

A family member told the Times that farmer, Gilbert Wilfred, stopped his  dark blue single cab Mazda van near the park in order to urinate, when a masked gunman emerged from the bushes and held him up.

According to the family member, the gunman  ordered the father of seven to get back into the vehicle, threatening to shoot if he did not comply with directions given.

Wilfred was told to drive to an area of La Ressource where the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) has a centre, ordered to get out of the vehicle and  instructed to lie face down on the ground.

The gunman relieved his victim of a wallet and a mobile telephone before driving off with Gilbert’s vehicle.

Gilbert, who is also known as ‘Spillover’ and ‘Mr.Dillin’, later walked to the Richfond police station, avoiding the main road for fear that he might encounter the gunman again.

At the station he made a report about the crime..

From the station the Dennery resident called his family at around informing them of his ordeal and was picked up and taken home by his son in law, according to reports.

Family members say they are very grateful that Gilbert was unhurt.

They have also expressed gratitude to the media and to the many citizens who called with words of support and comfort.

In addition, they have expressed thanks to the many persons who have supported the hunt for the stolen vehicle, PA3239, which is yet to be located.

The hunt for the vehicle began shortly after Gilbert returned home.

This sounds tragic, but also fishy…Of all places to stop and urinate is that specific spot where gunman just happened to be waiting? Is that a usually urinating spot? So a gunman knows that people likely stop there so he can rob them? Don’t get me wrong, I think man did get robbed, but the stopping to urinate….In that spot…. This man must be the unluckiest…. Perhaps he was doing something else in the spot and there is more to the story that he alluded to.

If this were not serious this would be hilarious. The mayor did warn them about urinating in public.

Firstly if the man wants to urinate he has the right to do that where ever he wants, you want that to kill the man. Especially if you’re some one thats sick there’s no way you can hold it. Threatening the man and robbing him is really not the way. It’s always the hard working people that gets rob, thank god nothing happened to the man I’m happy his safe but he must have be devastated. I hope he gets his van back in a safe condition with his documents atleast.

Regarding the urination comments, if he was buy already trained to feel like it was okay to pee anywhere whenever and wherever he felt like then it would be *easier* to wait until he got home. Old age or not. Anyways that still doesn’t excuse this heinous act. Let’s just be glad that it ended with him safe. Could have ended much worse with A different criminal
