Soufriere, St. Lucia – On Monday, March 20th, 2017, schools in District Education 8 became beneficiaries of financial support for sports development from the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF).
In a small ceremony held at the organization’s Board Room, cheque presentations were made to a number of school as part of the ongoing vision to see the impact of sports grow and become deeply entrenched as a curriculum in the school system.
The organization has prided itself on supporting programs and other initiatives that positively augment the holistic development of the youth in the community and ensure that budgetary allotments are made on an annual basis to satisfy its commitment to the advancement of sports.
According to Mr. Franklin Solomon, Operations and Projects Manager, “The schools are an integral part of our community; it is our priority that they not only get support in the area of sporting discipline but in whatever capacity that helps broaden the impact of their curriculum and programs.”
Ms. Valencia Charlery, Education Officer for District 8 expressed profound gratitude for the continued support shown by the SRDF and compared the organization to being a pillar of strength and a rock to the advancement of the education system in the district.
The Soufriere Foundation is a non-profit company located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, cultural, human resource, tourism and infrastructure development in the Soufriere area. The organization which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Center, Soufriere jetties and 88.5 Soufriere FM.
