T&T: Lawyers want probe into police conduct

Lawyers representing two murder accused have written to the Police Commissioner and the Police Complaints Authority (PCA), calling for an investigation into the way police carried out the murder investigation.

The attorneys are alleging that the officers used unfair interrogation techniques and breached the fundamental rights of the accused  in the murder of  Woman Police Constable, Nyasha Joseph.

The lawyers  also allege that during the course of the investigation, police officers were disrespectful to them when they attempted to visit their clients  in custody.

The claims were made yesterday when Kenneth Browne, 39, and his ex-wife Melissa Browne, 36, appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar in the Port of Spain Court charged with Joseph’s murder.
