UWP pays tribute to Sir Derek Walcott

Press Release:-The United Workers Party wishes to send out condolences to the family and friends of Sir Derek Walcott, who passed away, March 17th 2017 at the age of 87.

The renowned writer Sir Derek Walcott was a true son of Saint Lucia who often used his island home as inspiration for his poetry.

We stand with the People of Saint Lucia on this day of immense loss and we call on all Saint Lucians to come together to celebrate the life and works of this great man who serves as an inspiration for so many.

Sir Derek Walcott has brought immense attention to our country through his excellence in poetry and even before he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992.

The United Workers Party notes that Saint Lucians and people of the Caribbean currently have a heavy heart over the latest news of the passing of this literary genius and we take this opportunity to magnify the significance of Sir Derek to our island’s history.

May he rest in peace.
