Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, last night urged political unity on the matter of investment in this country.
Chastanet, a former minister of tourism, was speaking at the official opening ceremony of the Royalton Saint Lucia Resort and Spa.
He publicly recognized and thanked his predecessor, Doctor Kenny Anthony and the previous Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) government, for taking the ‘bold’ initiative to make the investment happen.
“I continually hope that successes like this can teach both political parties that while it is is required for us to be on opposite sides on many different issues, when it comes to the issue of investment we must speak with one voice,” the Prime Minister declared.
He said ultimately the Royalton investment will facilitate the Saint Lucia brand, redounding to the benefit of the individual Saint Lucian.
Chastanet referred to the 800 locals employed at the new resort and the positive impact their employment will have on their family.
He also mentioned the ‘multitude’ of bus drivers transporting staff to the hotel and the farmers who have a new market.
“That is why both parties must put aside their differences when it comes to investment in this country, because it is to the benefit of all of us in this country,” Chastanet asserted.
He said that he will continue to support investment in this country regardless of whether in government or in opposition.
