Chastanet urges political unity on investment

Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, last night  urged political unity on the matter of investment in this country.

Chastanet, a former minister of tourism, was speaking at the official opening ceremony of the Royalton Saint Lucia Resort and Spa.

He publicly recognized and thanked his predecessor, Doctor Kenny Anthony and the previous Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) government, for taking the ‘bold’ initiative to make the investment happen.

“I continually hope that successes like this can teach both political parties that while it is is required for us to be on opposite sides on many different issues, when it comes to the issue of investment we must speak with one voice,” the Prime Minister declared.

He said ultimately the Royalton investment will facilitate the  Saint Lucia brand, redounding  to the benefit of the individual Saint Lucian.

Chastanet referred to the 800 locals employed at the new resort and the positive impact their employment will have on their family.

He also mentioned the ‘multitude’ of bus drivers transporting staff to the hotel and the farmers who have a new market.

“That is why both parties must put aside their differences when it comes to investment in this country, because it is to the benefit of all of us in this country,” Chastanet asserted.

He said that he will continue to support investment in this country regardless of whether in government or in opposition.

You cannot have political unity when you act like a master. You also cannot sign contracts that would affect our lives thru generations without having the effected parties involved prior to signing. Nor can you do what you have been accusing others of doing… this is call hippocracy. You need to do what you promised while campaigning. “Have open and transparent government….go to the people prior to making commitments on their behalf. Stop putting all your eggs in one basket…tourism alone will not be our forever savior. A few bad international economic downturns will be our demise. Stop selling/ giving away what makes us unique. Stop thinking that we are so desperate that we are willing to give all to get back…little…and stop thinking we are dumb and stupid.

Is this praise to Kenny and the last Government a way to minimise the pressure on Chastanet to review or abandon the DSH project? Here is our E-pole question: Do you believe that Prime Minister Chastanet’s praise for the previous administration with regard to investment is genuine? Let’s listen to your views on the street………..

Unemployment figures, causes of suicide, murders, rape and robbery, increasing fuel prices, deplorable roads and the list goes on and on. The likes of Juke Bois, Sha Sho, Rick Wayne, Tim, Andre, Dave, Russel etc, etc. were keeping these topics alive! Now? The silence is deafening! Unity is always a good thing but one is always weary that, that cup of water might contain some additional substance. UNFORTUNATE!
