Opposition Senators today staged a boycott of today’s sitting of the Senate in solidarity with opposition MPs in the lower house.
The opposition Senators asserted that since there had been no discussion in the lower house on matters on the order paper, they could not participate in today’s senate sitting.
One of the Senators told the Times that what happens next will be determined by opposition leader, Philip J. Pierre.
The action by the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) Senators today follows a walkout of parliament by opposition MPs on Tuesday.
The SLP MPs accused the government of abusing parliamentary procedure.
At a news conference later, opposition leader Philip J. Pierre explained that a motion that was to be tabled by Castries South MP, Doctor Ernest Hilaire in relation to the Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP), had disappeared from the order paper.
