Saint Lucia police are out of traffic tickets, a situation which a local official who spoke to the Times on condition of anonymity has described as ‘ridiculous.’
According to information obtained by the Times, the traffic tickets that were previously used by the Police Traffic Department were found to have contained an anomaly.
As a result, the use of the old tickets was discontinued, a reliable source explained.
According to the source, Traffic Police officers have now been unable to issue tickets for more than three months while they await the new tickets.
“The hold up might probably be that something is sitting on someone’s desk waiting to be signed,” one source told the Times.
It was explained that without the tickets, officers cannot ticket persons for certain traffic violations.
“So they are just out there, walking up and down and can’t do their jobs,” an official said.
It was explained that the situation has implications for road safety and government revenue at a time when the current administration has asserted that this country is broke.
