Lightning Aquatics ranks at RHAC meet

Press Release:-With a contingent of 23 swimmers from ages 7 to 23 years the Lightning Aquatics (LA) Swim Club amassed 289 points thus placing 9 th out of 25 teams participating in the 18 th Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre (RHAC) Invitational Swim Meet held in Saint Lucia from April 6-9, 2017.

It was 4 days of tough competition from the approximately 320 swimmers from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Saint Martin, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Saint Lucia.

According to LA’s Club President Tessa Charles-Louis, “While there is always room for improvement, we are extremely proud of our swimmers who gave it their all despite the challenging competition from regional competitors.

Many of them recorded Personal Best Times and we are particularly thankful to our three coaches for their dedication to the club.” Mrs. Louis went on to congratulate all the teams especially the two Saint Lucian clubs that copped the 1 st and 2 nd place positions at the meet; Sharks St. Lucia and Sea Jays Swim Club respectively.

Here are some highlights during the RHAC swim meet for Lightning Aquatics: Naima Hazell placed 1 st in the Sprint Challenge and 6 th overall in the girls 11-12 age group, getting 3 gold medals better yet breaking 3 meet records in the 50 meter freestyle and in the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke. Naima also got a silver in the 50 butterfly.

Naekeisha Louis placed 3 rd in the Sprint Challenge and 5 th overall in the 11- 12 girls age group earning silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze medals in the 50 meter freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Our 11-12 girls kept shining as Aliyah Henry got the gold in the 200m breaststroke while Courtney Paul copped bronze in that event. Joesha Daniel captured the bronze in the 200m breaststroke in the girls 15 and over category.

The 9-12 girls relay team comprising of Naima, Naekeisha, Courtney and Angelique Gaillard put on an amazing performance to snatch the gold in the 200m medley relay and the bronze in the 200m freestyle relay.

While LA’s boys Akim Ernest placed 3 rd overall in the boys 11-12 copping gold in the 200 meter backstroke, silver medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke, and a bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Meanwhile, Karic Charles placed 8 th overall in the boys 9-10, snatching silver in the 200m breaststroke and two bronze medals in the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke.

Special mention must be made of LA’s Learn to Swim children Alexandra Bristol, Aaron Charles and Jahson Felix who participated in their first big meet. Alexandra placed 6 th out of 26 in the 25m backstroke, while Jahson placed 9 th out of 16 in the 25m backstroke in the boys 7-8 age group.

The RHAC Invitational came about 3 weeks after LA’s first Relay Carnival which saw Sharks St. Lucia placing 1 st , Sea Jays Swim Club – 2 nd and the host, Lightning Aquatics placing 3 rd .

Mrs. Charles-Louis said,“Our first attempt at staging a swim meet received rave reviews from swimmers and parents alike. Five of the 7 clubs on island took part. What made it extra special were the fun relays especially those which saw parents and coaches displaying their swimming abilities in the presence of the athletes.” Special thanks to corporate Saint Lucia and the many benevolent individuals for the financial and in-kind contribution in making LA’s Relay Carnival 2017 a success.
