Residents of Babonneau have defended an early Sunday morning beating of a man who they said had robbed a store at Cacao, Babonneau of some money and liquor.
The man, who had on a mask, was beaten, stripped naked and had photos of him posted on social media.
The suspect, one of three men who are reported to have showed up in a car, had to be hospitalised.
The daughter of the store owner, who preferred not to be identified by name, declared that he got what he deserved.
She recalled that while in her bed some time after 1 am, she heard a noise like that of a bottle breaking.
“I immediately awoke and ran down to the shop,” the woman said, adding that when she got to the shop, she saw her father holding down a gunman.
“He finally got the gunman and everybody came and tried to defend themselves, to protect themselves,” the daughter of the store owner disclosed.
She said the intruder had taken two bottles of liquor and some cash from the store.
The woman explained that another nearby shop owned by her father had been robbed at least twice in the past.
“They never got the people, so I don’t know if he was a part of the robbery,” she said.
“We feel a little better that at least we caught one of them,” the Babonneau resident stated.
But she noted that she and her family feel a bit unsafe since the man’s accomplices got away.
Another Babonneau resident who did not want to be identified declared that all masked men deserve to die.
“Under the mask you don’t know what is their intention,” he said.
“How can you come into a shop and try to hold up people, and is you alone ?” The resident stated, while asserting that the robbery was an act of “real disrespect.”
He defended the actions of Babonneau residents in not only beating up the intruder but stripping him naked as well.
“To me, taking off his clothes is better then him being dead,” the man stated.
