Babonneau police find submachine gun

Babonneau police have recovered what has been described as an ‘Uzi-type’ submachine gun, after an exchange of gunfire with two suspects who managed to escape last night.

The police had responded to a tip off that the gun, believed to have been used in a botched armed robbery of a shop at Cacao, Babonneau, was ‘ on the move.’

The robbery suspect in the Cacao incident is reported to have been overpowered and beaten up by the shop owner and some area residents.

According to information obtained by the Times, police officers confronted two men in a car last night at about 8:30 pm at Hill 20, Babonneau.

The men fled after exchanging gunfire with the police officers and throwing away a package which was later found to contain the submachine gun, sources said.

Babonneau police have also seized two vehicles believed to have been used in the robbery at Cacao and have arrested the alleged perpetrator who was involved, according to information.

The man, a resident of Carilee, is expected to be charged shortly.

what are the registration and chassis numbers of the vehicles. This should be made available. Also who are the registered owner of the vehicle at Transport board? The owners of these vehicle should not be allowed to own or insure a vehicle if they cannot give a reasonable reason why their vehicle was involved in such activities.
