Supporters of the Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT) on Tuesday staged a silent protest outside parliament over the decision of the government to eliminate the organisation’s subvention for the 2017/2018 estimates.
One of the SLNT supporters, Danielle ‘Lulu’ Bergasse said that she was there to stand in solidarity with the trust.
“There is no protest – we are just here to look,” Bergasse said.

She explained that she was very concerned about the elimination of the SLNT subvention because to completely remove financial support for an organisation as important as the trust should concern everyone.
Bergasse observed that the SLNT has a mandate to preserve Saint Lucia’s heritage and patrimony.
She said whether the presence of SLNT supporters outside parliament sends a message to the prime minister or not did not matter.
Bergasse said what was important was that people see that supporters of the SLNT were standing because they care.
