10-month old succumbs to injuries in La Croix Maingot fire

A ten month old child, identified as Kerry Lewis, has succumbed to injuries sustained in last night’s fire at La Croix Maingot which destroyed a dwelling house.

Kerry’s twin sister, Kerisa, who was also injured, is still in hospital.

(Kerisa Lewis)

The children’s aunt, Lorianne Lewis, recalled that she was talking to her brother when the incident happened.

“When I reached on top of the road my mother told me:’Look! A fire.’ When I watched I saw a big flame,” Lewis said.

She said her mother ran towards the burning building and she later heard her screaming.

“When I went I saw it was my brother’s house that got burned,” Lewis stated.

She told reporters when she saw the injured children she knew that Kerry would not survive.

“I will miss him,” Lewis said tearfully.

A police investigation is currently underway, law enforcement officials have told the Times.

Reckless and negligent like your Prime Minister. It’s not like they deliberately set the fire you are saying “always burning down houses”. Find a better way to express yourself.

what makes you think that she didn’t step outside to get something just by the road. Anything can happen in five minutes. Whenever it’s another person’s situation we always know what should and shouldn’t be done, but do we actually use it as a guide for ourselves.. no one actually know why she stepped away from her house.. it can be to collect pampers for the babies whatever… anything could have happened in that short space of time. Urll behaving like urll stand there 24/7 never leaving urll children sight. Put urself in the situation before urll start saying “Neglect'” Where did she go, How far, how long did she spend, what did she go to do… those questions should be asked.

No child should be left alone for one minute. Like you said things happens in the twinkle of an eye. We are not talking about leaving teenagers or even able aged kids. They are babies

Ten month old babies should not be left alone in a house. Some youlg parents are just too careless. If she loved her child she would not leave them in a house alone. So stop making silly excuses for her. I have a baby n ive never for once left him alone at home n go anywhere. Take care of your children.

Sometimes u are right there with the child. A plit second and they disappear. Only to find them hurt or dead doing something that the parent did not forsee. Was there unattended fires at home? Did the child have access to matches, candles etc. What was the cause?. Ten months unsupervised for 5 mins is dangerous farless more than that. Feel sorry for the family.

This mother should be charged. This should be thoroughly investigated. No child should be left alone and it takes an incident like this magnitude for many to learn. Sadly a life i’s lost. Yes we should not judge but in other countries you would not leave the hospital without saying exactly what happened without child protection going away with the other kids. People the fact is what it is. No pretending to this. I heard her with my ears said the kids were home alone and she went to check someone, now all stories changing. Like she said she prayed for a boy and her boy is the one who died, pray that God take you outta this as well… but justice has to be…

The mother fainted when she heard that a baby boy had died.
The father was the one who ran through the fire to get his kids inside the house. I pray that the whole family finds peace.

No matter how you look at this it’s negligence. These are babies, not saying that they have to be in your feet 24/7, however for them to be left alone long enough for this much damage to happen even death then they were obviously left for way too long. As much as my heart feels for this family and these babies I do believe that the mother or whoever is responsible for these kids ought to be charged for this. This is an unnecessary and tragic loss!!

  28. We all agree
    April 29, 2017 at 8:30 am

I believe we all agree it is sad. We all agree children and or babies should not be left unsupervised for lengthy periods. We all agree that this is heartwrenching to all concerned. There is still one fighting to live with the doctors helps and much prayers she may survive. Each person directly involved must step up and take responsibility. Where justice must be served by God’s grace it will.
