Five reported injured in vehicle accident

Five persons were reported injured in a collision involving two vehicles tonight at around 9 pm on the Castries Gros Islet highway, a short distance away from Saamans Park.

The collision involved a truck and a motor car, it is reported.

The truck, with the driver and a passenger on board, overturned while the motor car was hurled to the side of the road as a result of the impact, the Times was informed.

The passenger in the truck said the vehicle was heading north from Castries when the oncoming car left its side of the road and came directly in the path of the truck.

“There was no way that we could have reacted in time to the do anything – he came directly at us, most likely at 90 miles an hour – real fast. By the time he hit our truck, I flew out of the window and then I just saw the damage,” the passenger said.

He sustained what appeared to be minor injuries while the driver of the truck, who was trapped in the overturned vehicle, had to be taken out by emergency responders and transported to hospital.

The truck belongs to Sunshine Industries.

Three persons  who were said  to be in the other vehicle involved in the collision were also injured and had to be hospitalized.

The collision left the overturned truck partially blocking the road, resulting in a backlog of traffic on the highway.

Very true because it could have been you or a family member on the truck so before you call him an idiot please think. It is always the innocent who ends up getting hurt. Sometime we have to be harsh so others can realise they mistakes. These roads are too small.

The speed cameras might help but everyone needs to just be a little bit more cautious on the road. Comfort and peace to the family and friends of those who have died and those injured. Don’t know them but I felt the pain just seeing how crushed the car was. This cannot be easy. Also persons should keep their negative comments to themselves, as there are people hurting now. This could have been you or your family members…

Sharon, have you heard the old adage:”better to have people think you’re a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt?” You have definitely given this saying a whole new meaning. You are an ignorant, arrogant and confused individual who need to keep your stupid comments at home.

i believe police have to be pro-active, at carnival extra police are put on the streets of
castries because everyone know there will be trouble. The same should apply to long holiday weekends we know there will be trouble on the road. Why are the police working office hours or stuck in police stations waiting for a call.

Drunk driving laws should be enforced in St. Lucia. People drive under the influence all the time and cause major accidents like those. My goodness what can you be late for on a Saturday night. People take heed. You all are killing innocent people!!!

Very sad people, I know one of the families very close and I cannot imagine their cry right now, I have children same age As the young individuals and I cannot tell you how I would feel, there is no word and no comfort from any human that can console those families right now, but only the word of God, not from any pastor or priest but from their own conscious mind, God is the only one to help them now, and he will but the pain is real, anyone with children ages 18-21 will know.

Father God almighty we pray everyday for your intervention.

    God bless us all.
