Phone thief arrested after being put on probation

A teenage thief who was arrested for snatching a mobile telephone from a female in Castries earlier this week, was rearrested today hours after he was put on probation by a City Magistrate for the phone snatching incident.

(Stolen mobile telephone)

According to information obtained by the Times, 16 year old Daniel George also known as ‘Tall Prick’ of Wilton’s Yard, was pursued and held by City Constables after he snatched the telephone and fled.

When he appeared before the First District Court yesterday, he is reported to have been sentenced to a nine month period of probation, in default of which he would spend nine months in prison.

The court is reported to have exercised its discretion in view of George’s age.

His charge of stealing could have landed him in jail for two years, it was disclosed.

However, law enforcement officials have revealed that at about noon today the teenager was arrested by members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) for possession of a six inch knife.

George is currently reported to be in police custody.

Stealing should not be condoned. Anyone who steals should be severely reprimanded or punished. But to kill someone for stealing a phone is extremely ridiculous. Those comments clearly show that some people have very little regard for the sanctity of life. Let’s not forget that the perpetrator is still a child. We should try to rehabilitate him so that he can amend his ways.

They should make an example out of this one cuz its an insult to the justice system to commit such a crime after being on probation for a similar offence. This is a classic example of the rod being spared so the child was spoilt. Actions breed consequences…… let it be known!!!

He’s old enough to know what’s right and what’s wrong if someone had steal his phone would he feel good about it I don’t think so. . he’s hearing the news every day about crime he also have a mind of his own he knows very well what he’s doing. So whatever punishment that offered to him he look for it.
and to those who have pity for those good for nothing sun Of a BHs because it’s not them that was affected they will say any thing in his favor. He should get 15 more months. That would give him time to see crime don’t pay. (Words deleted)
