Press Release:-Persons continue to advocate for increased participation by youth in their communities, as there has been a noted decline in volunteerism across the board.
A group of young ladies from Choiseul have taken the lead in that regard. They have realized the issues faced by young ladies in Choiseul, and have taken a bold step to help alleviate these issues. Tracey Nicholas and Natoria Augustin came together to form the non-profit initiative is named ‘Sister Strong’.
The group was conceptualized with the aim of assisting young ladies in the community in boosting their self-esteem and self-confidence, and helping them to enhance their skills and proficiencies in order to make them more marketable in the every evolving labor market. With the launch of the women only group, they were able to attract membership from many other interested young ladies within the community.
The work of Sister Strong is in the form of volunteerism in the community, and constructive capacity building programs such as workshops. The ladies undertake a variety of fundraising activities to fund their programs. Their very first fund raiser was a cake sale in the town of Vieux Fort, with cakes sponsored by various businesses and individuals.
Their next activity is in the form of a workshop, with the aim of helping to build capacity among the young women of Choiseul, under the theme ‘Inhale Confidence, Exhale Doubt’. A few presenters have already been confirmed, and they include a police officer, an author, a nurse, a fitness coordinator and a makeup artist. The workshop, which is scheduled for May 27th, will seek to provide participants with many important life skills and lessons, which they can use in both their professional and personal lives.
With an ever increasing membership, now of over twenty, Sister Strong is hoping to inspire the women of Choiseul and to empower them to reach for their goals. They intend to continue collaborating with persons from the community to ensure that their impact is as far reaching as possible. The work by these young ladies is commendable, and it is the hope that their efforts spark a passion for volunteerism among the other young people in Choiseul, and St Lucia by extension.
To donate to the work of Sister Strong, please contact a member of the group or message them via Facebook.
