LPM Leader voices concern over Marchand shootings

The Leader of the Lucian Peoples Movement (LPM) Therold Prudent has expressed concerned over the recent spike in gun crime in the Marchand area.

Mr. Prudent has called for the implementation of a special policing strategy for Marchand and an investigation into the guns entering the community.

“Hot Spot Policing is required for an indefinite period of time,” he said. “But in meantime, government must also ensure that police officers are equipped with the necessary resources, including appropriate training to ensure the highest level of professional conduct, including improvements in investigative strategies and reporting standards are achieved.”

Mr. Prudent told the Times that the flow of guns into Marchand and other communities throughout Saint Lucia is very troubling.

He wants the government to conduct a full review of the Custom and Excise Department, immigration and port security and other statutory bodies that are responsible for the islands borders in an effort to prevent the importation of contraband, including drugs and guns.

“This out of control culture of gun violence and lawlessness must come to an end, otherwise our nation will continue along this downward spiral which is bound to destroy the existence of peaceful communities throughout St Lucia, and transform our nation into an ungovernable state, Prudent said.

He said the responsibility of ensuring a peaceful nation lies in the hands of the government.

“Our government should begin by hosting a National Consultation on Crime that would allow the people of Saint Lucia to openly voice their opinions and ideas on the many issues which currently affects their lives and makes it harder to eliminate or reduce the crime epidemic in the country,” he added.

He said political parties in this country must come to the deep realization that safety is paramount to achieving our goals of a prosperous and economically stable and viable Saint Lucia.

Yeah instead we have these stupid political leaders calling for riots and marches in the streets for their own political gains. They’d rather preach disharmony and disunity amongst our people than try to come together and find a solution for this violence running rampant in our streets. They’d rather do anything it takes to further their own goals and clearly don’t care about the actual well being of the nation

This dummy, lives in New York, yet he meddles in Lucian politics. No need for a part-time resident to tell us how and what to do. Time for you to leave de country again.

You mean a white man who was not even born in St Lucia can lead it but one who was born and has roots there can’t have a voice . Give me a break with that level of ignorance. You can’t even challenge what he said so keep quiet .

The LPM would appear to be simply an affiliate faction of the SLP based on the names/associates as identified back in a 2012, publicly accessible OAS document.

    https://www.oas.org/es/sap/docs/deco/2012/Inf_STLucia_e.pdf

Also, interestingly, Melanius A., a paid “columnist” for another St. Lucia internet-based media outlet would appear to not simply be a columnist but instead a non-disclosed, unattributed direct LPM political party-associated writer. If so, the media outlet in question, and the columnist, for the sake of transparency, should declare where their contributors have a documented political affiliation and not mask it.

    Very disappointing. It truly is.

Particularly for someone that repeatedly writes about transparency.

Stop with your jackass talk and stop insulting our intelligence as St Lucians. Most of the people in the LPM came from the UWP. It’s leader was once a rising Star within the UwP long before the era of the fools whom you help to elect.
Go ask about the history of the UWP before you come here with your johnny come lately foolishness .
And by the way, when they were out there for five long years opposing the SLP, should we contend back then they were a faction of the UWP? Chooos to nonsense.
