Events Saint Lucia Incorporated will centralize the production and management of the grouping of summer festivals.
Events Saint Lucia Incorporated is preparing for the second event in the Soleil calendar—the Roots and Soul Festival—slated for June.
At a press conference on May 17, Chief Executive Officer of Events Saint Lucia, Thomas Leonce, said the Saint Lucia Summer Festival is not an entirely new concept but an amalgamation of existing events under the management of one entity.
“We have had the Jazz Festival for the last 25 years. Carnival has been around probably before I was born. We’ve always had Heritage Month celebrations in the form of Jounen Kwéyòl, we’ve had the food and rum festival, and country music is an integral part of our culture, so we are putting on a festival that caters to the diverse needs of patrons,” he explained.
“Roots and soul or reggae music is very prevalent in Saint Lucia, so we are not creating new things but centralizing the production and management of those festivals under one entity, which [brought about] the creation of Events Saint Lucia Incorporated.
“I expect in 2018 there will be a number of events or festivals added, and we will tweak the existing festival depending on the subsequent evaluations.”
Mr. Leonce also recognized the pivotal role that the media and other partners played in the successful execution of the first event, Saint Lucia Jazz.
“Support came in a big way as gold sponsors, most of them; there were also some other major sponsors. Some sponsored the festival in its entirety, the entire calendar of events, not just one by one. So we want to thank the sponsors for displaying confidence in the product that we are building for 2017. In the years to come, it will get bigger and better as the brand develops.”
He added that Events Saint Lucia stands ready to collaborate with the private sector in organizing fringe events associated with Soliel – the Saint Lucia Summer Festiv
