UWP takes aim at former Prime Minister

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has unleashed a blistering attack on his predecessor Dr. Kenny Anthony saying that the former Prime Minister lacks vision, has left a legacy of debt and does not care.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a rally in Vieux Fort on Wednesday that was called to counter a mass public protest in Castries organized by the Opposition, St Lucia Labour Party.

Mr. Chastanet said the former Prime Minister had left a legacy of debt while the St Lucian people look on with empty hands and pockets.

“We owe Kenny Anthony and the Labour Party nothing. We gave them everything that they were supposed to have and they wasted that opportunity with lies.”

Mr. Chastanet said Dr. Anthony had failed to bring development to rural communities because he lacked vision.

“He could not see the sense in putting a cruise ship terminal in Vieux Fort. He couldn’t see that Vieux Fort was closer to Soufriere. He couldn’t see that Vieux Fort was closer to Dennery. He couldn’t see that Laborie and Choiseul and the Micouds and the Dennerys could develop because they were closer to the cruise ship. He could not see that because he has no vision and he does not care,” Mr. Chastanet said.

Prime Minister Chastanet said his government will soon be announcing plans for a cruise ship facility in Vieux Fort.

Castries South-East MP, Guy Joseph said the once bustling town of Vieux Fort has now turned into a ghost town under the leadership of Dr. Kenny Anthony.

“Kenny Anthony should be ashamed that after 15 years as Prime Minister, Vieux Fort has moved 25 years backward and not one year forward,” Joseph declared.

This is such a true staement. WHen vieux fort was ask to give themselves a prime minister, they did that overwhlemly. even when they saw in 2006 labour was losing they keep Kenny, the handout man. I live in vieux Fort and it is DEAD DED!!!!. The former PM Kenny had no foresight to uplift Vieux Fort, but have people depend on him for everythinmg? Is it a case of members of his party not approving any projects for his constituency? or just being mischief because he feels we will never learn his tricks. To UWP mamam guy us and you in trouble worst than Kenny, That is why we support the projects for vieux, fort, Just make sure phase 2 is well negotiated. we are all for development and yes our Airport upgrade, and please bring on universal heal care at the soonest and St.Jude hospital. We stand in solidarity with you. Mr PM Chastnet

Let the big well there there know his cries don’t mean a thing. Its all crocs tears. I’ve seen some do it better than him though. The late John Compton cried in one eye when he lost the election in 1979. At the time he was giving a giving a thank you speech in Micoud thanking the the Micoud people for their support. He admitted that in spite of continued support since he became a representative he had done nothing for that constituency. In say that he cried in one eye! So your cries means nothing to me.

Like I always say education without vision, imagination and a social conscience is just useless to us the citizen. What puzzles me most though is the cult of personally that seems to surround him. Even from reasonably intelligent people. Its almost like he had and continues to have a voodoo spell over them. They continue to defend him like sheep. So sad!

I think that is because they personally benefited from his crooked, vision-less ways.

But is it true that Vieux Fort is nothing, or the conclusion is based on an unfair comparison with Castries. Indeed, Castries along with the other towns and villages of St. Lucia are not faring any better than Vieux Fort. The only booming part of St. Lucia seems to be Rodney Bay / Gros Islet. There are so many government buildings, government jobs, and people in Castries that by shear inertia it will appear that Castries is more viable. Move the government buildings and the government jobs to Vieux Fort, and the town will be jumping. Notwithstanding, if Vieux Fort is so nothing, how do you explain the daily traffic jams.
