LA Swim Club & Sharks St. Lucia Share the Spotlight in Barbados

Press Release:-Members of the Lightning Aquatics (LA) Swim Club and Sharks St. Lucia swam up a storm to tie for 5th place out of 19 clubs and 1st place OECS team at the recently held Barbados Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) 26th Annual Aquatic Centre International held from May 19th – 21st.

Club President, Mrs. Tessa Charles Louis said, “We are extremely proud of our team, 18 of our 24 swimmers travelled to Barbados and really gave it their all. They achieved over 100 Personal Best (PB) Times.

Special thanks to LA’s Coach Peter James who ably accompanied the team.” The President also congratulated Sharks St. Lucia and all the other Saint Lucian swimmers who represented their clubs and country very well in Barbados.”

Here is a rundown of some of LA’s major highlights at BASA 2017: Naima Hazell placed 2nd overall in the Girls 11-12 age group copping gold in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, silver in the 50m back, and a bronze in the 50m free and the 200m breast. Naekeisha Louis (Girls11-12) got silver in the 50m breast, while Chloe Thomas (Girls 15 & over) placed 3rd in the 100m breaststroke and backstroke.

LA’s Naekeisha, Naima, Angelique Gaillard and Gabrielle Soomer snatched the gold in the (Girls 11-12) 4x100m freestyle. LA’s fine swimmers also attained silver in the 4x100m freestyle with Naima, Naekeisha, Angelique and Britney Edwin. As if that was not enough, Naima, Naekeisha, Angelique and Courtney Paul copped the silver in the 4x100m medley. Courtney must be commended for an amazing 100m butterfly leg in the medley relay, her first time ever swimming that specific event.   

LA’s Karic Charles (Boys 9-10) received bronze in the 50m breaststroke. Meanwhile, LA (Ethan Hazell and Karic), Sharks (Antoine Destang) and Racers (Therron Herrell) delivered an electrifying performance placing first in the 4x50m freestyle relay. Although no points were awarded for this exhibition race, the four lads gave spectators a preview of what to expect at the 2017 Goodwill games in Guyana.

Lightning Aquatics swimmers were decked out in their new track suits complements West Indies Shipping and Trading Company Limited and their new club t-shirts thanks to MASA Assist.
